Am I Secure?

Post by Jon Light (deceased) »

Just (finally!) got DSL and installed it. There's a couple of bugs that I hope to figure out some time later but it works and I'm pretty impressed.
Question: I have the free version of Zone Alarm. I've had it a while. Should this be good enough firewall protection? Do I need to reconfiguring it now that I've changed from dial up to dsl?

I'm not a ZoneAlert user so I won't comment on its setup, though I can tell you that it is a good firewall when properly configured.

However, I will say that now that you have DSL it's even more important that you have anti-virus software continuously running and automatically checking for updates. I've been using the free AVG Anti-Virus software from Grisoft, but there are many other excellent choices. Additionally, its a good idea to run a spy-ware checker every month or so. I use Spybot S&D.

J, Zone Alarm works great, the free version is fine, it will do exactly what you want. Use AVG, Spybot, and Microsoft Antispyware, turn on your XP firewall, and you will be fine. JP

Thank you, gents. Will--I do in fact have AVG and run it always and update it daily.
.....and also AdAware, S&D, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard. Maybe overkill but....
[This message was edited by Jon Light on 08 November 2005 at 03:45 PM.]
