Note: The Correct URL for SpamCop

Post by Bobby D. Hunter »

For some time now I have been urging SGF members to become reporting members of SpamCop, but neglected to provide the URL to the company's website. Today I received an email from a SGF member who thought he had gone to the SpamCop website, but found himself on a fraudulant website instead.

To prevent any further confusion about where SpamCop is located in CyberSpace, their URL is http://www.spamcop.net . <u>Do not</u> go to the ripoff company that is squatting at spamcop.com, or any other dot-extension. Only go to spamcop.net!

Here is the procedure to follow if you would like to become reporting members of the real SpamCop.
  • Go to www.spamcop.net
  • Look for the heading REPORT SPAM
  • Under that paragraph there is a link titled "Register Now" ... Click on it.
  • Read all of the terms and instructions on the page that opens.
  • Choose a login user name and type in your desired email address to use for reporting.
  • Read the definition of a Mole Reporter and decide if you wish to become a Mole, or a standard reporting member. Mole reports have much less impact than standard reports.
  • Click the button to Send Authorization Email to you. When it arrives, confirm it in the manner indicated.
  • The confirmation email you receive will contain instructions for logging into the reporting members area (members.spamcop.net), and tell you what information you must supply for a report to be filed correctly. Basically, you must copy the complete source code of the scam or spam email including the complete headers and message body into the textarea provided, then press the Process Spam button.
  • You will land on a second page where the details about the sender and hosting companies is displayed. After those items there will be a series of email addresses with check boxes in front of them, to which spam reports will be sent. Click Submit to finish the reporting process.
If you need assistance with how to reveal the source code for your particular email client (program), whether POP3 or webmail based, read this thread on the SGF Announcements Forum, or Post a request for help on this Forum. Once you learn to reveal the source code you just select all, copy and then paste it into the SpamCop reports text area.

You can also forward your spams/scams to SC, using the specially encoded email address that you will receive in your confirmation email. That encoded address is also displayed over the text area when you login to your SpamCop member's reporting page.

Mailwasher Pro also has a built in feature that allows members of SpamCop to forward spam directly from MWP, by checking a checkbox, or by creating a filter rule. For more details about using Mailwasher Pro to combat spam, read this indepth review of the product.

Report spam, scams and phishing schemes and help fight back, but <u>do not</u> report viruses to SpamCop.
