no sound-media player not recognized

Post by Frank Parish »

I've recently had to replace the hardrive and after loading the Windows XP Pro back onto the computer I now have no sound. I can put a CD into one of the drives and it won't play-the Media Player window doesn't pop up like it used to. I've had this thing do this before but the sound came back. I can't upload any of the drivers for the printer either. This is a home built computer so the mother board is probably about four years old. I almost didn't get the XP Pro loaded back on either. It somehow had switched something in the BIOS mode. What's up with this thing? Is it mother board time or what?

Did you set your program access and defaults? That can be a cause. Reset to Microsoft Windows. I just added a 120 MB Hard Drive recently and had to do that.

Do you have any chipset drivers for the motherboard? Without the chipset drivers, devices such as PCI sound cards, etc won't be recognized and drivers such as sound usually won't load.
