Help with a Popup Icon
I would sure appreciate some help here. Each time I boot My Computer XP Pro I get a pop up Dialup Connection icon that resides on my desktop until I click the close X. But just as soon it will Pop back up. I suspect it is some program trying to update . I sure would like to rid my screen of this aggravation but so far have been unable to do it.Could I just reinstall Netscape 4.1?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

John, thanks for the time to reply. I was misleading, its really not an icon but the small standard Dial-up connect screen. Anytime you get around it with a mouse, it diappears to only pop back up in just a shorttime ,seconds. It has my name correct but the listed
password is a 16 character unit, of course in dots. I never use that much passwrd which I deduct is something put on there by someone else, hince an attempted updater. I've tried to trace it through properties but have had no luck.I've even tried to change my name and delete password but it comes right back.
Hope this helps.

Did you scan your computer with a program that detects and removes spyware, such as "ad-aware"? I had a similar problem once. I did a google search, using identifying words from the pop-up. I found a solution.
You might also look in control panel/add,remove programs to see if it is listed. If not there, it may be in "program files".
You can also run "msconfig", look in "startup" to see if you can disable it there.
Maybe this will help until someone offers help, who knows exactly what the problem is.

In XP you can also hit Control+Alt+Delete which brings up the Task Manager. There you can see which Aplications are running. In the Processes section you can see which executables are running. Then you can do a Google search for each process and you will find out if it is necessary or not. If you do a file search on your own computer you can see where the file is located. I wouldn't go deleting files without researching. If it is Spyware or Adware, you would be better off checking to see if it can be un-installed in your Add/Remove programs section of the Control Panel, or see if there is a removal tool for it on a site like Symantec (Norton)
