DVD copy software

I have lots of Video of my picking years and have finally got a JVC machine to put them on DVD. Now I want to copy the DVDs so my kids can have copies. I have Nero that came with the burner but am not having any luck with it. Anyone know of good easy to use DVD copy software. Doing some searchs show tha DVD Clone ll may be good. Any input?

If you only have one DVD drive it will be a major hassle. You need two DVD drives, one DVD burner and the other can be a DVD ROM. Then you can do a disc to disc copy, which Nero will do. Nero has a separate DVD to DVD copy program but it appears to be exactly like the CD to CD disk copy program and probably the CD to CD will also work for DVD's. I know I've done that with the Roxio CD copy. Nero 6 suite (at least the retail version) comes with Nerovision Express for creating DVD's.

If you only have one DVD drive you may be able to copy it using the "cache" option which first copies the source DVD to memory and then burns the DVD "copy" from memory.

Jack, I have two dvd burners and I do have Nero, however I have never been able to get Nero to even copy a CD for me let alone a DVD. They both should be easy I would think but I always get some kind of error message. It is driving me nuts. As if a D10 was'nt bad enough.

Do you have the latest Nero versions? They update it quite often and just recently did an update.

Are you using the correct media for the DVD burners? The is Plus and Minus media and you need to have the correct type, unless your DVD burner(s) except both types. Many OEM drives (ones that come in new PC's) are Plus media types.

What actual error or indication do you get if you try to do a copy? If you are doing a disc to disc, use CD-R media, not RW. Same way with DVD media, don't use RW media.

OK that may be the problem. I am using DVD-RW for the video stuff but CD-R for audio. And the version I am using is recent.

Dave,

Try this. The reviews are a little biased but there is a nice comparison chart to help you decide which features are important to you. Dedicated DVD burning software offers more flexibility and better features for copying than Nero or the Roxio stuff.

You can copy a DVD using a single drive if you have enough hard drive space for the image file. When doing so, you can copy between different types of media (+/-). If you have two drives you can burn directly to the second drive but should use the same type media in both.

Also be sure you're not trying to copy a dual-layer (DVD-9) DVD to single-layer media (DVD-5). You can't do this directly, although several of the products mentioned in the link above provide a fit-to-disk function that will do so (requiring further compression).

I'm not sure whether you've done this already, but you may want to consider getting an inexpensive DVD authoring program so that you can add menus and chapters like a commercial DVD. There are several that are easy to use and will let you organize your video clips so your viewers can quickly locate any scene.

Do a search for DVD shrink it is a freeware program. It seems to work good so far

To copy DVD's then use DVD Shrink. It's about the best and if you have a large hd then you don't need two DVD drives. You need enough space on the HD for the image file. Then when it's done, it burns the new DVD. This program is used primarily to copy DVD's though, not to make new ones.

Check out the Iomega web site. I use an Iomega Super DVD Quick Touch DVD burner to burn original copies of DVD photo slide shows and VHS videos so that I can then view them on my tv via my DVD player. I can also add music to videos that I produce. I also use it to burn CDs that can be played on just about any CD/DVD player. So far I haven't had any problem.

I have a Panasonic VHS To DVD, you put on both in the same machine touch one button for three seconds, and it starts to copy, when finished you finalize it as you do CDs..
When I want a copy of this I go to the PC and use Nero, when it opens up choose DVD, and press copy, with one drive it copy's to the hard drive and exits and tells you to put in a blank disk, you tell it ahead of time how many copies you want and it keeps going till they are done.
When you do the next one it copies over the last one, it ask if you want to do this and you click yes, and it uses the same space over and over.

Sorry I did not answer your Q. I have Clone CD it is from Germany and it has copied everything I ever put in the PC,even Copied protected, mine was $50.00 and worth every penny.
