Need help

Hey Friends, I need an answer...
My cpu fan fouled and cooked my cpu. You know the little aluminum foil logos they paste on each side of the fan? the one loosened up on the inside and slid down between the fan and the heat sink and wadded up. nuf said.
I installed a new Mach Speed Viper V881DAS socket A m/b and AMD Sempron 2400+ socket A CPU.
Installed everything, new 3200 512 memory stick, added a new ATI video card, everything works like a champ.
but... Today I happened to run a check on everything, went to settings,>sytem>general:System, all correct; Registered to: us, OK; Computer: NOT! it says: AMD Athlon XP 1500+ 1.3 Ghz 512 MB Ram! This is the one I put in 2002 that scorched.
Why does it not see the new stuff? I ran all the driver disks that came with the new m/b. I run ms XP pro. Thanks in advance, Al

If you didn't reinstall Windows XP, with the new hardware that is probably what the issue is.

When you do that much changing (e.g. motherboard and/or CPU) Windows XP needs to be reinstalled. Actually you really need to do a "clean" install, which is reformat the hard drive and then install everything. I'm surprised XP even works at all with the MB and CPU.

Al,
Sounds like you need to "flash" the BIOS. There are several programs available on the 'net for this purpose

XP is sensitive to ANY hardware change and depending on the change it may even neeed reactivation. Wasn't like that on older Operating Systems but XP is different.

Go here and download the free Everest Home Edition.

It will tell you everything you'll ever want to know about your system and its specs. It's well worth keeping on your system fulltime even after you get it up and running the way you want. Very useful freeware.

I use the free Belarc Advisor www.belarc.com

It will profile both your hardware and software. It won't benchmark anything but then benchmark programs can vary widely and who is correct?
