How do I lengthen a Midi file??

Post by jolynyk »

I have a Midi file 2 minutes & 4 seconds long.. I would like to lengthen it to the neighborhood of 3 minutes or so.. Possibly another verse & achorus.. Can this be done using the same instrumentation??
Thanks... John

It sure can. What midi sequencer do you use? Let me know and I'll be glad to help you.

Hi, & thanks for your reply..
I have a couple.. I do have Power Tracks Pro Audio , I think it's Version 9, the latest one.. and I have BIAB 2005..
I also have Sonar 4.. You can PM me at jbolynyk@sasktel.net if you want, but maybe someone else may be interested in the procedure of doing this... I got a lot of Midi files I would like to lengthen to around the 3 to 3 1/2 minute mark... John
Which of those sequencer programs are using for your editing? Does your lengthened version play correclty in the sequencer?

Ernest, I haven't lengthened any Midi files as of yet, but am looking for a way to make them longer... The Sonar & PTPA play them fine as they are in the original (short version)... I have one in particular (Ray Prices) Pride, which I would like to make longer, & a lot of Blue Grass Midis.. most of them are anywhere from 1 1/2 minutes to 2 minutes.. John

Hi, it would be very easy to lengthen your midi files. Are you wanting someone to do it for you or walk you thru it?

If you want me to I can lengthen them for you. Just let me know

Can you cut and paste in Word?
If so you can do exactly the same in Sonar with Midi files.
Find the beginning of the section you want to repeat. Set the cursor to this point. Split the Track (it's on the Edit menu)
Do the same at the end of the section you want to repeat.
Highlight the section and "copy" it
Set the cursor to the place you want the repeat to go.
"Paste" the copy in.
Just like word processing.

Cheers!

Thanks for the help... Bob I can send you a file to lengthen for me, but of course I'd like to learn how to do it myself, because most of the ones I have are shorter than I'd like so for future I'd like to learn how to do it..

Dave I do have word, but have never had the occasion to use it extensively.. But I'm willing to try anything..
I guess if I screw something up I can always go to undo... huh??
