Default e mail for forum

Post by George Redmon »

When i click on the email link on a forum members name. My e mail from my ISP pops up. For the forum, i'm using that cheesy yahoo mail, since my ISP mail is even worse. Is there a way..WITHOUT making that worthless yahoo mail my Default mail, have it pop up when emailing a Forum member? or must i set yahoo as my Default mail to do that?

I don't think you can do that. Yahoo mail is a "web based" e-mail client, like hotmail. When you click on the e-mail link it brings up whatever default e-mail program you have set on your PC.

Last I heard, Yahoo can't be accessed via e-mail programs such as Outlook Express.

I'm a little confused if you want to make Yahoo mail your default mail client or not. But if that is what you want to do, then you need to install a little program that can be found here.

no Will..i DON'T want to make it my "Default" email. But i want yahoo to "Pop Up" whenever i write to someone on the Forum..instead of my outlook express, which IS my default. The reason being is because, outlook, is so prone to virus's, and spam...

George, Yahoo as I mentioned before is a "web based" e-mail client and is accessed via your browser. I've never seen anything that would allow you to do what you want.

I have a hotmail account that I use as my "public" e-mail address and if I want to e-mail someone on the forum I have the same issue as you do. What I do is have another browser active and copy that e-mail address and then access hotmail with the other browser and send them a message. I know it's a hassle but if you want to use a web based e-mail that's basically what you will have to do.

The program I posted in the above link will make Yahoo Mail "Pop Up" whenever you click on a "mailto:" link. This is effectively making it your default mail client. This doesn't mean that you can't still have another account and use Outlook or something similar as a mail client, but it will never "Pop Up". I know of no settings or program that will give you context sensitive control over what e-mail program pops up, such that you could use Yahoo for just forum e-mails and outlook for a mailto: tag originating on a non-forum web page.
