Recording
I use Samplitude for recording on my PC.
I bought a new computer with more memory, larger processor, larger Disk. My older computer, with less capacity all the way around, worked quicker than my new one. Example: in the mixer section, press mute and it takes 5 seconds to engage, where before it was very quick....
All of the functions are slower and the channel leds don't work with the music.
Are there a couple things I can check as a quick fix to this problem? Uninstall, reinstall the program? Is it the program, or something to do with the computer.
Another thing that happens on occasion is that a screen comes up saying that I have unplugged the cd burner, which I haven't. I have to restart it a few times to get it working again.
Thanks for all your help....you guys are awesome. Sorry to be so green.

What operating system was on your old one, and what o.s. is on the new one? I've seen the same thing many times, windows 98 often runs faster on old computers than XP on new ones, we've experienced the exact same thing here on our computers. Could also be lots of stuff in your startup folder, that preloads portions of programs so they open up faster but it uses up a lot of RAM.

Another issue is the "old" software you are using. Is it 100% Windows XP compatible? If it's designed for an older OS, such as Win9x/Me it may not be compatible or only parts of it are compatible. If it's an older program, try running in a Compatibility Mode, e.g for Win98 and see if that helps. Do you have V8, which appears to be the latest version and is XP compatible. Since this appears to be more than a simple recording program and more to a DAW environment, it's not an easy answer.
I do part-time computer support and that's one of the main issues when someone upgrades to a new XP machine from some older OS. Even the peripherals (printers, scanners, etc) can be incompatible or at best only provide basic functionality not the full functions they had on the old OS. XP has many new/different software and hardware requirements. Case in point, Windows XP is NOT a DOS based operating system and only has a limited DOS emulator built in. Win9x/Me are DOS based and in reality only a "graphical DOS system".

Hey guys thanks for your input. I am running Windows 2000 Professional on both computers. The older one was much more responsive although less capacity. I am running Samplitude 6.0, which isn't the latest version, but does all that I need.
I thought about doing an uninstall today, but I don't think that will help. I will check the Start up items, but I haven't loaded much into this computer.
Thanks so much for your help!
[This message was edited by Reggie Duncan on 25 June 2005 at 05:53 AM.]

Glad the problems seem to be worked out, Reggie; yes sometimes just uninstalling & reinstalling the software is all that's necessary, if you're lucky,
Jack is of course 100% right (as usual) with everything he says about XP and compatibility issues, I just didn't want to get into that until I knew if you were using XP or not, ha.

Hey Reggie. Get yourself a copy of Sonar 4. Good stuff! Send me an email if you want to discuss some recording stuff.
