I made those changes a few days ago, but haven't noticed it being any faster with my cable modem. If anything, I'm getting more timeouts, especially on the Forum.

As the article states, it won't do anything for a dialup connection.

lists one more tweak than John's, and has many comments, pro and con. I applied the non-networking one and now my FireFox is blazing fast! Image

it does indeed speed things up!
