large MP3 files

Post by Joe Delaronde »

I use MP3 Works to convert wave files to MP3.I notice some MP3 files are small (60kb) while others are quite large (4600kb)

I want to use the files on small 256 MP3 player which is supposed to give me 2hrs of mp3 music. On a 64mb player I can only record 17 songs. A 128MB will hold 27 songs.
What gives??
Thanks

Joe, I think it's all about the size of the files. My calculator says your 'average' song is between 3.7 and 4.7 mb. Maybe you can sample them at a lower bit-rate. Lower bit-rate = lower file size = lower quality = more songs.

Tommy thanks,
The files sound super good when played back, so I don't think I would like to make them less quality. I'll have to live with it.

Have you tried the built in converter that comes with Windows? Thats what I used to convert my files, and it has a large selection of mp3 formats.
