I also use and recommend AVG (7). You should be aware that the free version has only one scan schedule that is editable, including one editable time to check for updates (per day). Furthermre, the free version checks for and receives updates from exactly one server, for the entire planet.
The paid version increases the update servers to three (at this time) and allows multiple time scheduling for updates and scans.
