Music Files and Anti-virus Software

Post by Bill Bosler »

Ted Solesky has been trying to e-mail me a music file as an attachment. All I get is a file header and nothing else. Is my anti-virus software stripping off the file itself or what? I can't figure out what's going on.(WinXP SP2 with AntiVir XP2 software.)

How big is the file,- have you received other files of similar size since you installed SP2?
It could be that it is to large for your email client, some email programs have a "max file size" option that you can adjust yourself.
Just a thought, since I can't imagine the anti-virus software removing the file without giving you a message.

I can't find anything in Outlook Express that sets a max file size for receive. Where would I look? I've received some quite large CAD drawing files with no problems.

Actually, the size limit might be imposed by your email provider.

I wasn't sure about Outlook, haven't used it for a while. In Mozilla Thunderbird there is this option for setting a max size for incoming attachements, so I guessed perhaps there was something like that in Outlook as well.....

I think the problem is on Ted's end. He's pretty sure he's got something horsed up. We're going to make a few more tries. Thanks for the info. I'll let you know how we resolve this.

The trouble was on Ted's end. His ISP was stripping off the file because it was too large. You can close this thread. Thanks again.
