Scratched CD's won't play in PC

Post by Jeff Strouse »

I got some of my old CDs out, and my PC's DVD-ROM drive couldn't read it...stating that it was scratched or dirty. So, I cleaned them, but I get the same message. However, they play fine in my CD players. Is there anything I can do to make them play in my computer's drive?

Thanks!

I haven't tried it myself, but many people claim you can fix CD scratches by applying some toothpaste. More information can be found here.

Try them in somebody else's PC. If they are read there your CD-ROM drive may be the culprit.

There are several CD-ROM scratch removing kits available at Staples, WallyWorld, and OfficeMax for instance. May not work with DVD's though.
