Burner
I have an HP Pavilion XT933 and lately I can't burn CD's. Everything is fine up to an including pressing the BURN button. Then I keep getting: "No disc in drive...please install a disc and try again." I ran ENDUST lens cleaner and I have tried several new disc to no avail...still won't burn. The tracs I want to burn are the same tracs I burned twice before with no problem. Any suggestions?
Thank you!
Lloyd

You might try "Deepburner" its free software and works better than the burning software that came with my HP. I haven't had a cd fail since i downloaded and started using it.
There was a link to Deepburner website in another thread but i think its http://www.deepburner.com

Thanks Dennis...I done did but still have the same problem.....
Donna...would I have to have the software or could I just use the "Deep Burner" I just downloaded? What would cause it to go bad?
Anybody with any other suggestions before I buy a new Burner?
Thanks!
Lloyd

Here is how to do the drive uninstall/reinstall.
Right click on the "My computer" icon on the desktop. Select "Properties" off of the drop down menu. Select the "Hardware" tab. Click the "Device Manager" button. Click the "+" next to "DVD/CD-ROM Drives". The tree should expand and show a line for your model of CD-ROM drive -- right click on this new line. Select "Uninstall" from the drop down menu. Depending on your drive, there may be some additional prompts that will come up to complete the uninstall process.
Reboot. Hopefull during boot up the install process for the CD-ROM drive will automatically start.
If you can get the drive reinstalled, and it still gives you the "no disc in drive error", then you probably need a new drive. Luckly they have continued to get cheaper and cheaper.

I can't think of anything else to tell you to try.
Physically installing a new drive is fairly easy *if* there is enough room inside your computer case such that you can comfortablely work around the other components. Working on the 'space saving' desktop computers can be a big pain in the butt, as everything in crammed into place can you can't squeeze your fingers into the necessary spots. If you have a full sized desktop computer or a min-tower, it shouldn't be too bad.
Open the case. There will be 2 or 3 cables connected to the drive (power, data, and maybe audio). Disconnect these all from the drive. Unscrew drive mounting screw. Pull drive out of case. Repeat in reverse order with new drive. Boot and install drivers.
Alternatively, for a few dollars more, you can get an external CD burning drive with a USB interface. No opening the computer up. Just plug it in and go. You shouldn't even have to remove your old drive.
