defragging disc-Windows 98 Second Edition
I'm unable to defrag my disc, I tried shutting off the task scheduler and McAfee antivirus and it still won't work. Someone on this forum suggested going to safe mode but I don't know how to do that. Any ideas?

Jim has the answer to the defrag problem. I took his advice when i had that problem and now i can get through the defrag thing. It sometimes starts the process of defraging over and over again, but finally gets the thing done, after quite a while. First you have to restart your computer and before it goes to the "Windows" screen logo, keep tapping the "F8" key until it pops on to the black and white menu screen. Thanks Jim Smith.

I have Win98se and I had that problem,this is what I do.
select RUN type msconfig
on the general tab uncheck all items listed and select the selective startup, hit apply and ok then restart your computer. it will start in safe mode.
Defrag your drive.
when Defrag is done go to run then msconfig and just choose normal startup and restart computer

Thanks, everybody, for all your help--I managed to defrag it in Safe mode, going into Safe mode by hitting F8. The first time I tried the power went off just before I finished so everything was still dragging. I still have to tidy up a lot of things, but now at least I know how I can defrag the disc. Thanks again.
