Help ! I've Been hi-jacked !

Post by John P. Phillips »

My internet explorer home page has been hi-jacked by an outfit called My FREEZE ! I've tried everything that I know to do. I've searched for files and deleted them, ran spybot search and destroy, trendmicro, and stinger from McAffee with no results.
When I go to tools, and internet options, the area where you can set your home page is grayed out. I'm running XP home.
I saw something concerning this problem in another thread awhile back but have been unable to locate it. Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

John,

Hey Buddy! Try opening up Spy Bot - Search and Destroy and downloading the latest updates. You can do this by clicking the "update" button on the left side of the menu. Get the latest updates and then try running the SpyBot software. I have tons of people have this happen to them at work and I use the SpyBot software to fix it.

Let me know...

Cheers!
Mark

I've had good luck with a program called CW Shredder. You can get it here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

You might try Ad-Aware as well. It's a free spy- & ad-ware finder like Spybot. I use both of these programs.

Mark, I updated spybot and ran it again, got a report that 33 problems were fixed and one could not be fixed. Didn't say which one.
Tommy, I tried CWShredder, no luck.
GEEZE, this one seems to really be imbeded deep! Never heard of this one before. it' comes up on my home page as my.freeze.com
Must really be new. I picked it up while searching the web for free animations and graphics so beware !

Like Doug, I downloaded ad-aware from cnet.com
My computer had been attacked by both "my freeze" and "homepage hijacker". After I successfully downloaded the ad-aware program it took 30 seconds to find the culprit intruder and remove it. I have had no problems since. I would also recommend if you don't already have one, a good firewall. Try Zone Labs, they have a free downloadable firewall that works great.
Hope you get rid of that frustrating problem.
