required DevCon32.dll cannot be found

Post by Mickey Lawson »

Every time I boot-up, the message: A required devcon32.dll cannot be found. Make sure the file is in the correct directory. (Microsoft doesn't download this file.) Is there an easy way to keep this message from reappearing? Thanks.

That file is probably part of a sound driver - it's a device loader for sound card fonts near as I can tell.

You could get rid of the message by searching the registry for it, and removing the keys that point to it, or removing the application with msconfig that loads it.

But you might want it to be there. You can download it here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?devcon32

You will need to unzip the download and put it in c:\windows\system directory.

Hope this helps

I've had that same message come up. I bought and installed Audigy 2 from creative labs. I decided I liked Creative Rhythmaina from sound blaster live and so re-installed that part of the program. Since that time the devcon32 message has popped up. I cancel it and have seen no problems with the system.

I did try to get it from www.dll-files.com, but the message from that says there may be a difference that the computer may not recogonize. I really don't trust myself to alter the registry so I'll have to have my son do when he comes by.

Thanks guys, you pointed me in the right direction. The problem is with Creative-Soundblaster Live. I had to reinstall windows xp, --Dell said because of downloaded updates from Microsoft. Since I reinstalled Soundblaster live, I get this message everytime the computer is turned on. Computer says can't find Soundblaster card, after I reloaded the devcon32.dll file. I moved the card to another available slot, and still computer doesn't recognize it. (must be because of the devcon32.dll problem.) However the 5-speakers play ok. I downloaded a new driver from Creative for sbLive, it didn't help. There is a free large troubleshooting file I'll try next. (this must be a common problem.) Thanks for showing me where the problem lies. Mickey

Thanks for the web site Tom. Thanks Ken. For anyone having this problem, finally removed the continuing devcon32.dll, error message. Found lots of web site discussions, but no solutions. The problem is in Creative Soundblaster's Live 5.1 - AudioHQ. Went to Tom's web site downloaded zip file of devcon32.dll; to documents. Unzipped the file and right-clicked mouse on devcon32.dll applications, and clicked copy. Did a search and found AudioHq on C: Did a right click on AudioHq (file then shows it's part of C:\program files\creative\sbliv). Then clicked paste at AudioHQ. Did a left click on AudioHQ folder and verified devcon32.dll is now contained in the folder - files\creative\sbliv. At last, no more problems.
