McAffe log out?

Post by Ken Lang »

So my new computer comes with McAfee. I have seen posts that say if you are going to load a program, to disable McAfee first. How do you do that? The bar at the bottom has the icon, but clicking on it gives no clue as how to log off or whatever.

I'd like to load my printer software and others as time goes on, but I don't want to get in trouble. Once McAfee is out and the program is loaded, how do I enable McAfee again?

I have windows XP home. Thanks.

I have clicked on the icon at lower right, but there is no info on logging out etc. Perhaps someone who has McAfee will stumble in and give me an easy answer. If not, I'll have to (gasp) do some work on my own and figure it out. Never the less, thanks Dennis for your help.

Right click on your icon near the clock. You should see virus scan listed.. Put your cursor on that, and you'll get a drop down menu with the disable function. If that doesn't work, you should find an option to disable in your security console, listed in start/ all programs. Hope this helps.

I'm not at my home computer to check out how to turn it off but I have loaded many programs with McAfee running and have not had a problem with any of them. I didn't know you were supposed to disable it.

It might effect some programs if it's enabled but it hasn't affected any of mine.

If all else fails, you can use brute force and kill the program in the Task Manager. Hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up the Task Manager.

John hit it on the head, thanks John. I hadn't thought of right clicking on the icon, but there it was. Now I understand how to disable/enable the darn thing.
