Soundblaster vs Win XP

Creative labs Audigy2 platium ex.
Worked OK in win 98.
Loaded Win XP on my system.
Disaster follows.
I have been to win support and tried their fix. I have been to soundblaster.com and downloaded the xp files. I have uninstalled and reinstalled audigy in both safe mode and regular . Now this machine tells me there is no sound card present, when I HAVE used it recently, even in xp, and just reloaded it.

My rope is almost at the end. I tied a knot just to hang on, but it might be a noose before long.

Any ideas?
