Chinese looking characters

Post by Jeff Strouse »

I've noticed when I view a lot of web pages lately (on the forum, and other various web sites), there are Chinese or Japanese characters throughout the text...usually every place there is an apostrophe ' ' ' . Does anyone else notice this and possibly know why it's happening?

Thanks!
[This message was edited by Jeff Strouse on 13 February 2004 at 08:30 PM.]

Still having this problem with the apostrophe ' `, showing up as Chinese/Japanese looking characters...it doesn't happen all the time, but I do see it daily on various posts and web pages. I thought I'd bump this old post to see if anyone else has noticed this, too. Could Windows XP be interpreting the apostrophes incorrectly?

ALso, I don't know if it's related or not, but when I type up a forum post in the box provided (the "Your Reply" field/box), the area I type in doesn't automatically scroll down with the type. Once I fill the space provided, I have to hit enter a few times to see what I'm typing, because it goes below the box. In other words, the type goes below the field parameters and I can't see what I'm typing unless I hit enter a few times to move the type up a few lines. The scrolling used to be automatic. I hope I'm explaining this clearly...

I've even reinstalled Windows XP, but it hasn't corrected either of these problems.

Any help would be appreciated!! Image

You didn't mention what browser you're using, but there should be an option in the menu bar under view or some such for the character set. Make sure it's set for one of the Western ones. Also, might be related to a font management program, such as Adobe Type Manager, if you have one running. And make sure you have the latest Windows updates.
[This message was edited by Cal Sharp on 17 March 2004 at 07:10 AM.]

There's also a setting in your browser's preferences for Fonts/Languages you might want to check.
