Duh!

Post by Ken Lang »

So a couple days ago I get an Email from my server, Yahoo.com.

It says management@yahoo has determined I have sent a bunch of emails out with a virus-something like beagle-Jamms. My wife gets one too.

I spend two nights trying to resolve this. Finally, tonight I download grisoft 7.0 AVG anti virus software for $33.30. OK, I really did need something to protect the computer.

After 25 minutes of checking my files and finding nothing, I finally canceled it. It had gone through the important stuff and found nothing.

I go to my Yahoo email server and there is a little note.....Did you get an email pretending to be from us? So solly.

So, all this time and a few bucks were for nothing, save my finally buying a anti-virus program, and I do understand there is some bad stuff out there, which leads me to this conclusion.

We need to write our Congress and Senate members to enact laws to fund a program that will enable identifing where the virus first came from. If somebody can write em, then with enough smarts and funding, somebody can find them.

If said offenders reside in the US, a public hanging would be good, after which drawing and quatering would be optional depending on how much down time was lost.

If said offenders were from another country, extradition to the US would be manditory, followed by a small nuclear device or two if said country hesitates.

Strong letter to follow.

Don't feel too bad Ken, I spent every evening for three weeks shoveling manure out of my PC.
The upside is that I have much better AV software installed now and the ordeal forced me to learn more about the inner workings of this confounded machine.
As a side note, the authorities in Belgium recently captured a young female virus writer and it looks like she'll get off with a slap on the hand. Go figure.
I'm of the opinion that a good old fashioned public stoning never goes out of style.

P.S. The idea of having the Feds enact new legislation to deal with spam, virus writers, spyware, etc. appeals to some, but as badly as the Govt. mucks up everything else they touch, their solution might not be something to wish for.
