Now, I am not a member.
I have not ordered anything from eBay.
I will never buy from eBay, because PayPal is not supported in South Africa.

Is this a fake message? Some links point to =http://r.aol.com and =http://pages.ebay.com.

You can be 99 @99/100% sure it is a scam to get your personal information.
I suggest you forward it to e-bay security and they will definately go after them.

Peter;

These are scams. It's getting harder and harder not to get them. They will show up in your inbox from time to time. Delete them.

From what I understand Ebay (or PayPal for that matter,) will never send you an e-mail where it asks you to put in your password. They might send one saying you need to update your information or something, but tell you to visit their site and update the information.

My best,

Could be that those links take you to a bogus Ebay page, replete with logos etc. that is actually the hacker's page.

I have both Scam and Drop Down software, but you still have to be wary and supervise those programs. My programs sometimes allow Scams, but deny legitamate messages from my friends!

The final responsibility is still yours!

The email DID have eBay logos and bogus links, but I did not make them visible on the forum.
Thanks for your confirmations, guys!

I'm not a PayPal user, but I got a bogus PayPal message several weeks ago. One clue is that the message addresses you as "Dear Ebay Member". PayPal says any legitimate email from them will address you by your user name. Probably the same for Ebay. PayPal gave an email address for reporting such fake messages; I'm sure Ebay has one as well.

Ebay confirmed it was bogus, and they are taking action.

I just got one - the message was that someone had tried to access my account 3 times with the wrong password so would I mind clicking on the link to verify my real id/password ...
I clicked on the link alright, but the id/password I entered was a message telling these spammers what I think of them Image

Though the format of the message may look authentic, when you click on the link - look in the URL address field, thats the give away.
[This message was edited by mickd on 16 February 2004 at 12:29 PM.]
