Program for vinyl pops & cracks
Am presently transferring a bunch of old lp's and cassettes to CD. Can anyone recommend a program to remove some of the pops and cracks on the lp's?

I used to use Cool Edit 2000 with the noise reduction plug in for that - did a pretty good job. I heard Wave corrector works pretty well, never tried it myself.
Here is a list of several, mostly shareware. You could download and try them out, see if they work for you.

This company makes a program called "Depopper". If you do a search here on the forum you can find other that use it. I have about decided to use ripvinyl and depopper when i convert my lps to cd. These two programs are cheap. Did you find ripvinyl to your liking? Here's the link to depopper. http://www.droidinfo.com/software/depopper/

I use a program called DART Pro(Digital Audio Processing Technology). It's kinda pricey but really has some neat features. Check it out at http://www.dartpro.com.

Hi guys....I've tried all three programs mentioned. I would rank them:
1. CoolEdit
2. Depopper
3. Dart
For the money IMHO Depopper is the best value, and nearly as good as CoolEdit except in extreme cases.
For those interested, I did a side by side test of a real scratchy record processed with Depopper and CoolEdit. you can download it here: http://angelfire.com/vt2/tommymc3/DepopTest.zip
[This message was edited by Tommy Mc on 11 February 2004 at 03:34 AM.]
