FYI....After trial and error trying to extract compressed files, I finally discovered that basic XP Home doesn't do that! The first negative I have found with XP Home!

Gene are you saying that you can't extract compressed files from a zip file?? So if you right click the zip folder to extract files from....; you don't get a extract function???
I've got xp professional...and I have that no prob.....so your saying xp home does not have that??
Ricky
I use XP professional at work and if I could have that at home I'd like it, but I haven't cared for the Home XP computers I've seen at my neighbor's apts here where I live. My youngest son is a programmer for Columbia U's
web site in NYC. He's a Linux guy, but he says his girl friend has XP Pro on her laptop and it's very stable. (I still get blue screens on my older win98 & BIAB ver 12
once in while!)<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Doug Seymour on 29 November 2003 at 04:04 PM.]</p></FONT>
I have XP home edition and I can extact any zipped file, simply by right clicking on the folder (which I always download to my desktop) and then clicking on "extract all..."
This should work ok in XP Home. It could be that there is no file association for files that have a .zip extension. You can go to "my computer", then "tools", then "folder options", then "file types". Scroll down to the bottom of that list and see if "zip" files are in this list. If not, you will have to click on "new" and add these to the list and use "Compressed [zipped] Files" as the file association.
I finally "confirmed" that the Compressed (zipped) folders feature was not included on my edition of Windows XP, so I bought and installed Winzip.......every zip function is now available and with a "Wizard" to do all the work.
