Posting a music clip in Real Player

Post by C Dixon »

I was trying to post a short clip of music to this forum. I ran into dead ends.

Can someone post a step by step procedure as to how I can do this?

Thanks in advance,

Carl
glad to have a chance to help you for a change Image

Here's how I do it

1) record the clip - now I have a (very large) WAV file - 17MB in this example
2) reduce the WAV file to a Real Audio compressed file using the free utility 'Real Audio Live Encoder'.I use the '32K Stereo' setting which is supposed to be the best for dial-up modems, which most people probably still have. Now I have a file which is just 409KB, which I have called "32K_stereo.ra"
3) I fire up a FTP client (loads of these for free on Shareware.com) and upload the 409KB file to my web site, into a directory called, in this example, /tab/embraceable
4) now I go into Notepad and type in a single line (without the quotes)
"http://www.micksguits.btinternet.co.uk/ ... _stereo.ra"
the bit before "/tab" is the URL of my homepage. Now exit Notepad and save the file as "32K_stereo.ram".
5) now if you just go onto the forum and post the link to the file by entering
"[zzz=http://www.micksguits.btinternet.co.uk/ ... stereo.ram]here's a clip [/zzz]"
but leave off the quotes, and where I put "zzz" you must put "URL" (I used "zzz" otherwise the forum software will automatically display the actual link and not show how its made up - like this
here's a clip

Hope that helps.
Its a bit less awkward if you use WIndows Media Player, then you only need the one file, not 2.
