Threat Program
I have recently installed Norton Anti Virus version 2004 . That program includes an expanded portion that will show a file that Norton considers to be a threat . I ran a manual full system scan recently that showed my computer contained a file that was as "threat" . This file was named "ADWARE ". Norton advised it to be deleted but I was never sucessful in the deletion after following Norton's instructions on the scan window when it was completed .
I followed their "removal" instructions long enough to know that it required me to go into the registry if their deletion instructions were NOT successful I refuse to do that as I am not that computer savy and would surly screw up my whole system .
Is there a download that I can go to to do the complete deletion ( including the three registry files that are ivolved)done for me ? I run Windows 98 OS IBM Aptiva computer . Dialup 56K connection .
I would appreciate any suggestions or help from you computer wise folks . The name Registry has always scared me too much to mess around within it's boundry .
Thanks ,
John

John, when in doubt, try a Google search for adware:
you will find all kinds of links to web sites with information about dealing with adware and spyware. Good luck.
[This message was edited by Bill Moore on 01 November 2003 at 08:31 PM.]

John,
You can make a copy of your registry files before doing the edits. If you have any problems you can always go back to your backup but you should be fine if you follow the instructions exactly. Click on 'start', 'run', type 'regedit' and hit ENTER. In regedit, choose 'registry', 'export registry file'. Name the file with today's date (110203) and note the folder where it's stored. Make a copy of the modified registry too when you're finished and just name it 110203a.

Mike,
Thanks for your help . I'm still afraid of registry involment but I may take a run at what you outlined .I am printing it out to make sure I don't get " off track ".
Mike -- a personal question ! In my younger high school/ early college days ,I played steel around the "joints" in Jackson , TN. with Carl Perkins . I recall that Carl used a drummer with your last name as time went on and I went overseas to answer to " UNCLE SAM'S CALL" .
Would you be the one ?
I have seen your posts before and always wondered if you were the one . Maybe you once lived in Jackson , TN. ? I think the Mr. Holland Carl used later was from Jackson. Just curious !!Carl was a good friend of mine ! GOD REST HIS SOUL !!!
OOOPS--I should have read your profile before asking the questions !!!! I was not trying to add a drummer's title to a fine steel guitarist such as you -- sorry !! Should have checked more throughly .
Regards ,
