No Sound.

Post by Pete Burak »

It seems that, all of a sudden, I can't get any sound out of my system.
I click on steel radio, Winamp3 comes up and shows a song is playing, but no sound.
The speakers are working fine (I tested them with a walkman).
All the volumes are up in both Winamp and in the Accessories>Entertainment>Voulume Control section of my computer.
It worked last week.
Any ideas???

Hello Pete...I would try inputting a signal on the line in or mic inputs first. If no go, I would next reload the sound card driver, and/or software.
Has anything else been changed? (new software installed, hardware added/removed/relocated?) You can also use the MS INFO program, hardware resources/ conflicts/sharing,IRQ's etc., to see if something may have inadvertently grabbed an IRQ away from the sound card.
I have personally seen way too many instances of a device shown in "device manager" as "THIS DEVICE IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY" when in reality dead on its butt.
You didn't mention your windoze version...you can try RUN/ then type in "HWINFO /UI" which should display an in-depth look at hardware device function/non-function.
BTW, on the volume control settings issue, look for obscure/small "MUTE" checkboxes too. They are easy to miss, and seem to get a mind of their own sometimes. Anyhow...
