Peter,
Have you added anything recently to your PC? I have suggestions for both your your problems.
1. Your Defrag only gets 10% and then resets. I assume your OS is Win98 or 95 or Me...is this correct? Try turning off your screen saver, and power settings. Also turn off your virus scan and if you are on a dedicated broadband connection, disconnect your Cat5 cable. The reason your defrag stops is because something on your system wants to access the Hard Drive. You should try and eliminate all possible culprits.
2. The I/O error on port 378. Have you installed a external device lately? This is really a printer port, but now you have a conflict on it. More than likely you can go into your BIOS and change what port the LPT goes on. Your options are 0378, 0278. Just change it to 0278 if you can.
Also, let me know some specifics on your machine...IE Speed, Operating System, RAM, Printers, External Devices, etc.
Thanks!
Mark

I used to get that problem - was usually an antivirus or similar working in the background. I got "Enditall" which shuts down all un-necessary programmes, before running drfrag.
However I would recommend diskeeper - there used to be a free "lite" program, but I have since upgraded to their version 8 - defrags on a daily basis without having to shut down anything - only $29.95. Well worth it.

Peter,
Make it a habbit to always boot into SafeMode before running a defrag ! It's a lot easier than having to manually kill this and that and in order to have "this and that" running againg after the defrag ..... well you'll really have to reboot anyway !
