Windows Explorer Stops Running

When I am working in windows explorer, for no reason, it just quits and sends me back to my desktop. I can reload and soon it will do the same thing even doing a different task. I am using XP. I’ve done a virus scan and I have disabled all programs that I can in the Start menu as suggested in a prior post. There many items in the start menu that are not in the “Answers That Work “ database. When I use the link http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_full.htm, in the "What Needs To Be Running post", I get a Page Cannot Be Found notice. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
