I had this problem about 2 years ago. I would burn CR-RW discs and my Win98 machine would not read them. However, if I took that CD-RW to a Windows 2000 machine, it was fine. Now, if I made a CD-R not CD-RW, it was fine also. Win98 was able to read the CD-R disc. So I gave all of my CD-RW discs and bought the cheapest spindle of CD-R's at Sam's club and have never had a problem.

I get the same problem, using Win98, burning CD-R's, not CD-RW's. Sometimes my own machine, which burned the disc, won't read them. Sometimes it will. Occasionally I've found that rebooting the machine helps. Sometimes it doesn't. Go figure. Frustrating...

Here's another one...

I have a couple of new steel CD's that play fine in the car but for some reason Microsoft Media Player only sees TRACK 1 and TRACK 2. However, if I start cdplayer.exe on the same computer, it sees all the tracks just fine. Go figure!

So, I've set the default handler for the .cda files to be cdplayer. This is on Win 2000 here at the office. I'll have to see if I have the same problem on my Win XP Pro at home.
