Stock cd Recordable/ReWritable good enough?

Post by Steven Welborn »

My Compaq P. ( bout 3 yrs old) came with an LG Electronics' ReWritable drive. No specs concerning speed that I can see. For the time being, I'd just like to record some practice tapes to CD just for the ease of workin with CD's. I have Roxio easy CD creator. Got SB Audigy2 Platinum as well.
Couple questions:
I'm not sure what the Mhz is for my cpu. How do a find that out?
I've got about 7.5 Gigs available on the HD. Is that sufficiant for a one cd operation(then clearing it out of the HD after the burn) without any crashes?
[This message was edited by Steven Welborn on 08 August 2003 at 12:05 PM.]

[This message was edited by Steven Welborn on 08 August 2003 at 12:06 PM.]

Steve-- BELARC Advisor will provide pretty good info about your system depending upon what data has been encoded onto the various chips. Go to the this web page and follow instructions.

You should have plenty of space on your hard drive. A CD only holds 600-700MB. I use NERO software, which has an option to simulate a 'burn' before actually doing it. That way you can make sure there'll be no problems. Perhaps ADAPTEC has a similar function???

You can right-click on My Computer and look at your computer's Properties.

I wouldn't worry much about what speed unit you have. Just burn your CD's slowly for best results. I usually slow mine down to the 8X setting; as low as it goes, I guess.

I suspect some of the CD's I burned earlier were burned too fast and they have an occasional crackle and they seem somewhat more suseptible to skipping when played in a car stereo.

You'll typically consume about 30 MB per track; so 20 tracks pretty well fill up a 700MB CD.
