Privacy Alert PopUp - really annoying

Post by Chip Fossa »

Hello Gang,
Anyone else getting hit with this red & white nuisance of a popup?

The thing is, sometimes you can't click it away because it is partially hidden below the screen in the lower right corner. It won't drag out, either.

I'm also running KILLAD, which is working pretty well to bomb popups, but has failed on this one.

Does anyone know what to do about this insidious pest.

It really does get in the way of whatever it is that you are doing.

Thanks all,

Thanks Garth.
Is Mozilla free, also?

I had AdAware at one time, but it seemed after a while it didn't work right, and never seemed to have any updates. It just sorta sat there.
I'll give it another try.

I'm running WindowsME, and using Internet Explorer.

Maybe I should change my browser too?

Thanks for those links. I'll try anything. I can't convey how much hatred I have for any intrusion on my private PC. Who do these skunks think they are? Why don't they take the money they waste on scorned ads and use it to
make their products a little better??

OK - enough ranting

I have had good results with Pop-Up Stopper available at www.panicware.com Free basic version, and it works pretty well.

For spyware removal I like Spybot Search and Destroy, available at http://security.kolla.de and also free. I switched to Spybot from Ad-Aware and like it better - it's much easier to keep updated

Mozilla is one of those unsung heroes of the Internet, sortof like what Google was 2 or 3 years ago. An incredibly powerful, open source (you can change just about everything on it), freeware program (no charge, no trial period, EVER); the folks at Netscape got a hold of it, modified and restricted its power, and marketed it. When you first load it, you'll think "Well shoot, I just hated Netscape, this looks just like it." You're wrong, and it takes quite some time to find the true power and all the neat little "gadgets." Me? I'm lazy. I had it installed before my motherboard burned up, and haven't gotten back into it.

P.S. - I use IE for now, for the same reason I eat at McDonalds and order pizza. It's fast, easy, relatively cheap, and I don't have to think "well where's that recipe for Mac and cheese?" Microsoft and McDonalds - Should never be put into computers or bodies worldwide.
[This message was edited by Michael Garnett on 02 August 2003 at 02:05 AM.]
