Advice on Win 98

Hello; My old computer is giving me fits again today.Has been working fine until this morning i decieded to run "scandisk & then defrag".Somewhere along the way it has messed up something concerning my monitor/video display.I have tried everything from downloading drivers + a few other things & nothing has worked.My "Display/Properties/Settings will
NOT accept any changes that i make to it.I need to change the "colors" setting from 16 to 256.I do then hit apply-computer restarts & nothing has changed..I think the best for me now would be to revert back to a setting from yesterday as it worker flawlessly until this morning..Is there a way to do this in Win98 1st version?? Any help/answers will be much appreciated here..Thanks Ron

Well, i was able to figure it out myself & now it is working "like new" again..Ron
