Macromedia Freeze-Up

I attempted to go out to Mike Perlowin's up and coming new website, and on my PC with
Windows ME, a Macromedia warning flag
immediately popped up and stated that I needed IT on my system to view the site.

It asked if I wanted to "download now?"

So I clicked YES, and immediately the PC froze up. Had to hit CTRL-ALT-DEL that brought me to the blue failure screen.

This has happened in the past at other websites, as well. So I just ignored it, for awhile. Then one day, when the Macro flag popped up, yet, again, I clicked it off. But then I went directly to Macro's website and tried to download it [vers.6, I think] from
there = Immediate freeze-up.

On my other PC with Windows 98 [typing from here now] their is no problem viewing Mike P.'s website.

What can be the problem trying to download
Macromedia on the Windows ME PC??

It's really annoying.

It's the WinME that is the problem !!!!

That O/S is the pitts......

Go back to Win98 or better yet, upgrade to Win2000.

Those packaged computers sold on the T.V. are loaded with down-scaled O/S systems because they know that you will eventually purchase a better system. "Microsoft Works" is the most crippled thing I have ever seen forced upon the public.

Usually this happens because of some problems with your existing Flash ActiveX control. You can uninstall it using these instructions, then visit the Flash download page and let it try to install again.
If that doesn't help, let me know.

Thanks Bill. I think you are right. I am actually A/B-ing both PCs, and 98, while it doesn't have half the clutter as the ME, it seems to work so much better and quicker.

When I bought the HP Pavilion [ME], no one told me,
but then I didn't think to ask, that it came thru with ME.

Off hand,do you know what a 2000 upgrade
would cost??

I paid around $150 for the Win2K Professional upgrade.

I just tried goin to "THESE INSTRUCTIONS", and guess what? = immediate freezeup. I'm back on the 98pc. I can go to 'these instructions' on 98. The 2 pcs are networked.
Can I send that Macromedia Flash Player
Uninstall from the 98 to the ME? Will that
work?

Maybe there's an easier way.

Thanks everyone.
It took some phinagling, but Macromedia6
and ActiveX are now installed on ME.

I "repaired" Internet Explorer and got updated drivers for Intel(R) 82810 Graphics
Controller. Then I downloaded to My Documents
MMversion6. But I had to download from the 98pc via NETWORKING to MEpc, at this time in the procedure.

I followed all of the troubleshooting advice at MM's site, and finally it worked.

I did have some problems when Windows went looking for drivers for Intel 82810. There
were probably 50 or more files it couldn't find. But I kept clicking on the CD drive with the ME disk, and CABS.....and wierdly
the 'can't find file flag' kept staying up
even on CANCEL, and behind was the % bar that kept going up, until finally 100% was reached. Bizarre.

Anyway, it must work, cause I put the test to it and went back out to Mike Perlowin's
site, again, and it came thru, no problem.

It took a good couple of hours, since I started. It's a good feeling to have gotten this right; especially from someone who is not to savvy with pc's.
