Klix & Things

Post by Dave Seddon »

I am desperately trying to get some numbers recorded, I am using Powertrax. My problem is I keep getting clicks and pops, like when the central heating switches on and off, or if the security light switches on or off. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this, do I need a programme for this or is my computer just crap? It's a Fujitsu Siemens, 800 Processor, 512 memory, 40 gig hard drive, soundblaster platinum card, what more do I need, any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Dave.

There are two immediate suspects.
Dirty Mains - spikes in the supply caused by the things you mention. They might not even be in your house, as long as they are on the same substation and phase.
There is a firm in the Lakes who make a thing that cures it, I'll look them up when I get home (it's about £30)
The other likely cause is a clocking problem. If you have two devices which both have internal clocks, they are posssibly arguing amongst themselves which is the master. That would happen if you have a digital Desk like an O2R, or an ADAT connected to your PC
Your hardware setup seems OK., though I don't know Powertrax at all.
