On some sites I can't see the pics, it requires "HyperText Transfer Protocol". Where do I get this from???

HTML IS Hyper Text Markup Language
It is the way browsers communicate,
but part of that is a protocol or organisation for transfering the data
in this case a picture, but it could be sound.
In this case I believe the picture just isn't where it should be, either not up loaded or damaged or in the wrong folder, or the author did a bad link to it.
So your browser puts up a generic message.
You have HTTP in your browser or you wouldn't be able to read this or open a web page.
All this newfangled stuff ...!! good luck.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 13 March 2003 at 01:34 PM.]</p></FONT>

You already have HTTP.
It's the extension of the address (The "http://" in the website address) that your browser needs to download a page for your viewing.
Your browser reads the HTML language to produce the pages. If you're using IE you can click "View" and then "Source" to see the html. This is what the browser sees and then converts it into a page for you to see.
As far as pictures not showing up, David is correct. There are many reasons why they aren't coming up for you.
I have found that mis-typing on character can cause a picture not to show up on a web page. When you come across this on a page, notify the webmaster of the site that the graphic isn't coming up. The webmaster might not even know about it. Most times there is a "mail us" link or something like that. I've been to several sites on which the pictures are linked to the webmaster's C drive. They must have inserted a picture and forgot to alter the link to the picture's web address.
