Burn DVD's with a CD-RW!

Post by Bruce Wutzke »

Anyone else got this spam message? All you have to do is "click here" to learn how to avoid buying an expensive DVD burner. They claim to have the software that will allow you to burn DVDs with a CD-RW.
I didn't "click here" to find out. I think that's how they get your address for more spam.

DVD Professional V4 will do it. Does multi formats and burns it to a regular cd-R on your RW drive.
It makes a perfect copy and I can watch the results on our TV.

I doubt that it would work totally. The way I understand it, DVDs are the same as CDs except that the data is burned in multiple layers. That's why a DVD will hold so much more data than a regular CD.

If you comply to the DVD format, you CAN write DVD to CD-R. However, due to the DVD format size you can only have about 4 minutes of DVD on a normal 700mB CD-R. If you can write a whole movie on CD-R it is usually a more compressed format with a different size, like VCD.
DVD format is Mpeg-2 at full screen size. Vcd is 352x288 Mpeg-1, so it is much smaller.

Just watched Brotherhood Of The Wolves. Perfect picture with THX sound.

Only drawback, it took 8 hrs. to encode it to CD, but I had the computer work night shift while I Slept.

The program costs $14.00 US.
