Matt,

At my company, I only buy Dell Lattitude laptops for all of the traveling employees here. However, at home I have a Toshiba Sattelite Pro and I also have a Sony Vaio. Both are EXCELLENT machines and they did not break the bank (As far as laptops go). If you are looking for anything used...I saw Jody Carver post in the computer section that he might be looking to get rid of his Dell laptop. Shoot him an email and see what he says...

Matt -

When looking for laptops, go to as many stores as you can stand and play on as many of them as you can find.

Remember that when on the road there are two things you cannot change - the screen and the keyboard.

Does the keyboard feel comfortable? Do you like the pointing device? Is the screen bright enough? Do YOU like the looks of it?

Most of the time I don't think extended warranties are all that great, but on laptops they are very important. Check the fine print and call the manufacturer. You may just find out that the keyboard and screen are not covered after 90 days.

If the screen goes, you are looking at about half the cost of the laptop to get it fixed/replaced. That makes the extra 10% well worth it.

But, hey, that's just my opinion - your mileage may vary.
