Antivirus Program Recommendations?
I run Norton AntiVirus 2002 and am happy with it, but a relative doesn't have an antivirus program and asked me for a
recommendation.
I see on the Symantec site that Norton has "Norton Internet Security 2003" for $40 after rebate. It has these features:
Norton AntiVirus™
Norton™ Personal Firewall
Norton™ Privacy Control
Norton™ Spam Alert
Norton™ Parental Control
Strangely, the stand alone version of Norton AntiVirus 2003 costs $50 and no rebate is offered.
Would she be better off paying the extra $10 and getting the stand alone program for the sake of simplicity and then downloading the free version of ZoneAlarm, or getting the Internet Security suite and having a more difficult program to deal with.
I would appreciate your comments. I don't know anyone who has "Norton Internet Security 2003" that I can ask about it.
Thanks,
Mel

Everyone has their favorite product - my choice is based on doing anti-virus work since 1985 and watching how the programs have progressed throughout the years. A couple of years ago I changed from Dr. Solomon's Anti-virus Toolkit (the company was bought by McAffee) and moved to PC-cillin from Trend Micro.
As I sit here typing this, I have another machine from a client that was running another popular anti-virus product that did not protect it and got infected with Klez, Bugbear and Opaserv. PC-cillin had removed all the infections and I'm not getting things put back into shape from the infection.
None of my clients who run PC-cillin have this problem.
That's my experience - your mileage may vary.
