95% of the sites that I click on for either
mp3, video clips etc. play perfect & quick
(since I'm using a cable modem). But why
is it that when I go to Dan Tyack's or JD's
site & try to play anything...all I get is
some kind of encoded jibberish filling up the
whole page? Sorta strange.

The plug-ins, or audio drivers, you're using (RealAudio, Microsoft Player, Quick-Time, etc.) are not the latest versions. Many times, people who upload files for listening just automatically assume you have the latest of everything, or will get it just to hear their stuff.
Small websites who are are interested in maximizing their exposure would do well to stay a step or two behind "the latest and greatest" in their audio conversion software so more listeners could enjoy their sites...without having to update drivers constantly.
