Installed a new hard drive

I have installed a new hard drive and would like to get the e-mail addresses for Outlook Express and the favorites folder for IE from the moved C drive (now D) to the new C drive. I wanted a clean install of Windows ME rather than copying the old drive to the new drive. Thanks for any help.

Hi Dan

I don't know about ME, but in Win98SE the Favorites folder is in C:\Windows.

The address book file should have a file extension of .wab. It is located in C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book.

Copy the Favorites folder and the .wab file from your old C drive to the corresponding directories on your new C drive and you should be home and dry.

Hey, Dan,
How much did it cost you and how long does it take to do this?
I would like to purchas a new Hard drive, and we have an exellant "Hacker" (that is what I call him) that has a Computer store in Winnfield, LA.
This guy REALLY knows his "stuff"
He takes care of my wifes' "Moss Home Health" computer needs. She works as an RN, and he keeps the Co. computer up to date, and running smooth.

Ron, Sams had the 40 gig drive for about $75. Western Digital has all the software you need to format the drive which was very simple. However the drive install requires the proper BIOS as some older ones do not support a drive larger that 32G. I had to call Western as my computer would not show the drive on bootup. They told me to add an additional jumper to pins 1 and 2 besides the jumper to make it the master pins 4 and 5. That fixed the problem. The software also allows you to copy the contents of your old drive to the new one which is easy. I did not want to do this because I wanted a clean install of Windows ME. Dan,

I think you can also bring all your old e-mail messages along to the new system. The Outlook Express mail files are similarly located to where Lou said the address book is.

Just copy the entire "Identities" folder and contents over the version on your new install disk. On my old WIN 95 box they're at C:\Windows\Application Data\... keep drilling down until you find "Outlook" and then "Identities"

I did this yesterday after having to restore my C-drive. Again, that's on WIN 95 Outlook Express.

Yep, they were there in the windows dir under identities etc. in Windows ME
