CD ROMS kees burinig up

Post by Justin Griffith »

I have a pentium 2 machine running 98 32ram etc. the problem im having is it keeps burning up cd drives about 2 months then i have to replace it. the light on the drive stays on more than it should I think. any ideas? also I need more memory but all the slots that the memory fits in are full. anything to do here? or do i just 86 the machine?
thanks,
Justin

Justin,

Sounds like you have been sinking some money into that machine.

I would try opening up the box and hooking up a new strap from the power supply to the CD-ROM drive. Also go out and replace the ribbon cable that is attached to the CD-ROM drive. More than likey either the power cable or the ribbon cable has a short and is sending a spike into the drive.

But, my overall suggestion is the 86.

Let me know...

Thanks,
Mark
