Realone Player has changed my registry

Post by erik »

After customizing my download of this loathsome product and rebooting. I was prompted by Windows that my system changed and needed to be updated. I did and first thing i noticed was my Norton firewall incident reports were wiped clean. Then i noticed a disturbing trend. Every time i downloaded an mp3 the file type is automatically changed to .mpga This is troublesome because i clicked yes to .mpga but NO to mp3 on the install... meaning i did not permit real player to play mp3 files. I think i am going to delete real player. How do i get into registry? I forgot.

Be very careful editing the registry! Run "regedit" to edit.

I also "upgraded" to RealOne a few months back and found out it sucks! After you completely uninstall it you can re-install free Realplayer 8 basic at this link: http://proforma.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html

It will occasionally give you a dialog box telling you "your Realplayer software is out of date" and prompt you to download RealOne, just close the dialog box.

I've had no problems with Realplayer 8.

I hate Real Player and all other programs associated with the company. Besides downloading the application, the company feels it is necessary to install AOL and put links on your desktop and start menu for it. Then I have ALWAYS checked, NO do not take over control on MP3, MPEG, AVI and other such file extensions, but it never works and Real Player seems to open everything! I have uninstalled it and I will never install it again. I don't care how bad I want to hear a radio station that is only available with the real radio player or how bad I need to hear some .ra file. I will never install it again.

Just goes to show you, computers are nuts...I mean they're not all the same. I've never had any problems with file associations and Real Player installed. True it installs a lot of other crap like AOL, Real Download, etc. I just uninstall them and delete their icons.
