Web Page Sound Files

This is new turf for me. On my Angelfire website I use an EZ template for most stuff. They provide a blank text block where you can input html and I use the code
img src="/xxxxxxxx.JPG" for pictures. How can I present .wav or mp3 files for downloading? I'm drawing a total blank. I uploaded a .wav file but I can't figure out what to do next. I do not want to embed sound to make it play automatically (I hate that!--it makes me feel like someone is hacking me.)

A better alternative to a .wav file is a RealAudio file. They take up a LOT less space and stream better as well. You can find more information at www.realnetworks.com. I personally use the freeware version, and it does all I need it to do. To see what I have done, go to www.cullifer.com and click on "Audio/Pictures" on the top toolbar. I have an audio clip on the bottom (more to come!). Anyway, take a look and see if this is anything of interest to you.

If you decide to go with Real Audio, check the source code on any one of my steel pages and it will show you the code you need to input to both stream and make available for download any Real Audio files you put online. Streaming requires you to make up a .ram file in notepad such as this: "http://users.interlinks.net/rebel/steel/bigcity.ra" (NO Quotations)
This file is then saved in notepad as a plain text file with the name of the .ra file used, in this case- bigcity.ram
You then upload both to your server and provide the links.

Hi, Graham:
Could you go over that again, please? I've loaded up a *.ra file to my webspace and created a link to it on my web page, but when you click the link it downloads the file before playing it; it doesn't stream it. So... to stream it I need to make this text file you mention, in Notepad, and upload it too, right? Ok, then how do I link to BOTH that and the *.ra file at the same time? Or is just the link to the *.ra file enough, as long as the text file is on the same webspace? Or... ?

Jim, Both the .ra and .ram files need to be uploaded to your web server but only the .ram file needs to be in your link for streaming audio. Graham offers the option of streaming audio or downloading, by linking to both the .ram and .ra files.

Of course, most new RealAudio files are saves with the .rm file extension, so you may not have a .ra file(s).

Additionally, for all who listened to the audio, I have made some adjustments to it and the quality is a LOT better. So check it out again if you want to hear it with more clarity.
