Godin ACS

Post by Bill R. Baker »

Who is using this guitar? What unit do you use with it? I am using the Roland GR 30.
Is there a better sounding unit than the 30?
What is out there?

I have an ACS as well as a Godin Multiac Jazz that I use with a Roland GR33. I tried one of their GR20's and didn't like it so I bought another GR33. The 30 and 33 are basically the same except the 33 has a built in expression pedal. I use it very little, but its nice to have when I need it.

There are some other units out there, such as made by Axon, but they are more more expensive and there is very little information available about them. I think they are made in Germany. I tried to find a company contact a while back, and never was able to. The company information was really vague.

I've always had good luck with Roland and Boss products.

Darvin, what do you think about the ACS guitar itself? I've been thinking lately about getting one.

Bob, I think the sounds were basically the same in both the GR33 and the GR20. My main dislike on the GR20 was the lack of an LCD display to see what patch I was using. It has an LED that shows the patch number, but you have to have a cheat sheet around to tell you what it is, or you have to have a lot better memory than I've got. The GR33 just seems easier to use.

Stephan, I really like Godin's guitars. The ACS is easy to play (mine has the 1 7/8" wide nut) and have a good nylon string sound. The tracking on the GR33 is as good as any steel string guitar. The pickup system is made by RMC and seems to reproduce a more realistic sound than Fishman or L.R. Baggs systems. I also have a Godin Solidac that doesn't have synth access, but it has great strat type, and acoustic sounds both. The quality and workmanship on all of these guitars is really good too.
