There was one in the Evans amp I had
a few years back. Good sounding speaker.
Just depends on what you're looking for
tone-wise. Eminence (Eclipse), Peavey
Black Widow, JBL, EV, etc. Each one does
it's own thing.

I've never seen large Eclipse speakers on sale anywhere. I had surmised they were the speakers made on a contract basis by Eminence, for bulk sale to audio equipment manufacturers. Eclipse speakers are very popular in high-end car audio applications.

I just played one in a modified Peavey LTD and it sounded great with a push pull Emmons.
Not sure how the amp has been modified, but I was told it was modified by or for Bobbe Seymour.

I have been playing steel guitar a few years (about 47) I have several Evans Amplifiers. When I bought my last one from Darrell Stephens I told him I wanted a JBL in it..He said he would put the Eclipse speaker in the amp...Try it and if you don't like it I will put you a JBL in it. Well that was several years ago and I still use the Eclipse. They have a real warm sound with a good clear top end. Nothing takes the place of your own ears. But it is a pretty good speaker.
Thanks,

I also have a Peavey LTD with a Evans
15" Eclipse speaker, and I agree with Reggie it sounds very nice.

The Evans / Eminence / Eclipse 15" speaker was offered as the standard speaker in the late 80's / early 90's Evans amps. They were custom built for Evans as an OEM.

They had a warm midsy sound and a lot of people liked them. They matched up well with the Evans due to they were all rated at 4 ohms.

Most people though changed out these speakers for BW's in the Evans as to achieve thier own preferred sound.

I have several Evans in which I did the above.

Me too. About a 20 year old FET 500 with a 15" Eclipse. Sounds just fine to me. I usually keep the DEPTH and EXPAND mini-toggle switches in the down position - a fuller sound.

Never had to fix anything, especially the Eclipse, on this Evans amp.
