dual mode cabinet?

Post by Eric Jaeger »

Anybody ever seen a speaker cab that could be run in either mon or stereo? I would guess it would be something like a 2x12 with two 8-ohm jacks for stereo and either a 4 or 16 ohm jack for mono. I haven't seen one, but I'd like one since I have both stereo and mono tube heads. So figure someone must have built one at some time.

Thanks for any ideas.

Yeah, Eric---I've got an older Tone Works 2 x 10" cab (pre Genz Benz, I think---the Mosvalve people) that is wired stereo/mono depending on which jack you go into. I've actually never run it in stereo. If you need it, I may have a wiring schemo around for a switchable S/M rig like this. I think Genz Benz may still make something like this.

edit----you may be pushing it if you want the option of 8 ohm x 2 (stereo) or mono 4 ohm or mono 16 ohm. That one gives me a headache. But it's probably do-able.
[This message was edited by Jon Light on 19 June 2006 at 04:23 PM.]

Hi Eric,

I have two different 2X12s that you might want to think about. I have a THD stereo 2X12, that you can run stereo, each side at 16 ohms, or mono, at 8. I have a much larger Diezel cabinet that is wired up the same way. I run a VHT 2/90/2 into these cabinets which sounds really great. Both were custom order jobs.

Both companies have web sites that show you pictures of them, the THD cab is super comapact and light, it's only a bit bigger than the Bogner Shiva single 12s that I also use, but the Diezel cabinet is a beast, it weighs just about as much as a 4X12. Sounds great, though.

I did find my wiring schemo for some complex scenarios. I'll email it if you ask----it's too oversized to post in this forum box.
