Powered speaker with PodXT

Has anyone ever tried running the PODXT through a powered speaker instead of a steel amp? I run direct to the board through my POD and i'm looking for something small and light weight to use as a stage monitor.. I'm currently using my Nashville 1000 for that purpose but would love to scale down.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as always.

I ran my POD into a Stewert power amp & into two Evans speakers. It worked great. If you're talking about self-powered speakers, Brad Sarno mentioned some new powered speakers that he was saying would be good for steel. I can't recall the name of them. It should work really well as that's essentially what people are doing running them straight into their power amp. I think in the past self-powered speakers didn't have enough power but Brad was saying these new ones would really do it.

This old tweed cabinet has an Eminence neodymium
speaker powered by an ART 560 watt power amp.
I use my PODxt for preamp/FX. Total weight is
only 42 lbs.

Keep your eyes out for the new SPLIT powered speaker from TC Furlong. I believe that it will soon be in production. Super light, super powerful, real nice cabinet design. I'm sure we'll hear more about it in the next few weeks.

Eon, Mackie, Bose, Fender "Passport", there's a bunch of them. I really think the traditional steel amps are going to join brontosauruses soon, you can get a Crown 500w power amp for $200 (XLS 202). Two 15's and a POD and you're in business, or a POD and two powered speakers. Of course, headroom and compression will remain important.

Hi Jay:

Is this the 2515 Neodymium from Eminence? How have you felt about the speaker overall? Do you feel the need for a tweeter or is the top end adequate?

Regarding the Pod - Mine hisses, and I can't stand performing with it as a result. How has yours been in quiet situations?

My PODXT is quiet as a mouse.. both through the mains and my ear monitors.

Mark,
Hit the "gate" button. That'll keep things nice and quiet. I tweeked the "threshold" adjustment a little on it, but that's about it. I was using the 2515 (early model) that has a dome shaped aluminum dust cover. Has plenty of high end and handles 300 watts rms. Since my amp puts out 560 watts, I switched to the new Kappalite which came out recently. It handles 450 watts rms and a whopping 900 watts program power and weighs only 8 lbs!

Hey, that tweed cab is a beauty. It seems sacreligious to use it for your hi-tek rig. I'll trade you a nice black carpeted KK Audio s-15 open back for it.

I'm using a POD XT Pro in a combo cab with a 2-space rack in the top and a 115 cab in the bottom. The 115 cab is closed-back and tuned and ported with the Eminence/Harris software and has a Peavey BW 1501-4 speaker. In the back of the speaker cab, I mounted a Parts Express PA Plate amp http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=300-797

Then I acquired the Line 6 "Short Board" remote controller. I put removable casters on the bottom and had a HD cover made for it.

I use it at least once a week and it is the best amp I have ever had. The POD XT Pro DI to the house PA is the best I have ever had, too.
