I "think" it's based on the old Ross comp.,with mods.If so,I can tell you that the Ross is the best comp. I've ever used.
I've had mine for years, and will not part with it.Good luck.PJ.
I have one and I like it a lot, it's the first compressor I've kept longer than two weeks,- I've never been comfortable with using compressors live before, they've been a 'studio only' tool for me.
I use it very conservatively, with very little compression ("9 o'clock") and it adds a certain 'togetherness' to the tone that I like.
Keeleys are supposed to be great, if its a good price I wouldnt hessitate. For those liking the Ross compressor, I built a clone of the Ross compressor myself from a kit i pourchased, it was fun, pretty easy and it sounds terrific. not to mention being three hundred dollars less that the current going rate for a vintage Ross on ebay.
I have had my Keeley Compressor for about 2 years now. I use it with my Tele and Twin. When I purchased the Keeley I was going to A/B it with my BOSS CE2 (japan) compressor but once I heard the Keeley...to A/B the units would have been a waste of time. The Keeley Compressor made the BOSS Comprosser sound like a toy.
After getting the Keeley Compressor I got his moded BOSS Blues Driver-2 and its like the Keeley Compressor, a very high quality unit that sounds better than great.
